CSAAE Speaks on the Need to Adopt a Proposed Sexual Harassment Policy

During a Stakeholder engagement Workshop on Sexual Harassment organized by the Center for Gender and Youth Development, Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education Owerri. The Ethics Program officer of CSAAE was one of the resource persons who spoke on the need for the University to adopt a proposed comprehensive Sexual Harassment Policy which has the potential of reducing harassment within the university community and foster a safe learning environment for all. The participants includes the Vice chancellor represented Provost, the Registrar, Directors of Institutes, Dean of Faculties, Principal Officer of different units.The activity that necessitated this workshop started in August 2023 when we held an Ethics Compass Webinar on Sexual Harassment in Nigerian Higher Institutions. After the Webinar, the Organization had to work with directors of Gender Studies Units of the various Universities in Imo State to develop a sexual harassment policy for the universities.During the workshop, the Participant passed a vote of confidence on the Policy and moved a unanimous motion for the policy to be adopted and domesticated by the University.

Nigerian Water Producers and the Code of Ethics for Waste Management 

On October 26, 2024, we hosted an insightful webinar titled “Nigerian Water Producers and the Code of Ethics for Waste Management.” The event brought together 289 participants, including water producers, environmental advocates, and industry stakeholders, to discuss ethical waste management practices in Nigeria’s water production sector.  The session featured Engr. Lumanze Bismarck, President of the Association of Table Water Producers, Imo State, who provided valuable insights into the environmental responsibilities of water producers and how ethical practices can promote sustainability.  Key Highlights from the Webinar  1. Ethical Responsibilities in Waste Management  Engr. Lumanze Bismarck opened the discussion by emphasizing that waste management is not just a legal requirement but an ethical obligation for water producers. He outlined the core principles guiding ethical waste management:  He stressed that adhering to these principles not only protects the environment but also enhances brand reputation and builds consumer trust.  2. Current Waste Management Challenges  The session also explored common waste management challenges faced by water producers, including:  Engr. Bismarck highlighted that while these challenges are significant, they can be overcome through industry collaboration, innovation, and adherence to ethical standards.  3. Best Practices for Ethical Waste Management  To promote ethical waste management in the water production industry, Engr. Bismarck recommended the following practices: ✅ Adopt the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle plastic waste at all production stages. ✅ Eco-Friendly Packaging: Switch to biodegradable materials and recyclable plastics where possible. ✅ Proper Disposal: Ensure waste is collected, sorted, and processed responsibly, avoiding dumping in water bodies or landfills. ✅ Partner with Recycling Firms: Collaborate with waste management companies to facilitate recycling efforts. ✅ Public Awareness Campaigns: Educate consumers on responsible waste disposal through labeling and community outreach.  He also urged water producers to join industry associations, such as the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP), to access training and resources for ethical waste management.  Interactive Session: Insights from Participants  The Q&A session allowed participants to share their experiences and raise critical questions. Engr. Bismarck emphasized the importance of collective responsibility, noting that industry collaboration, government incentives, and consumer education are key to overcoming challenges.  Conclusion  The Nigerian Water Producers and the Code of Ethics for Waste Management webinar underscored the urgent need for ethical waste practices in the water production industry. As Nigeria faces increasing environmental challenges, responsible waste management is no longer optional—it’s essential for protecting ecosystems, communities, and future generations.  We extend our sincere gratitude to Engr. Nigerian Realtors and the Code of Professional Ethics

The Center for Social Awareness, Advocacy, and Ethics (CSAAE) has once again made significant strides in promoting ethical practices in Nigeria’s real estate industry through its August edition of the Ethics Compass online webinar. Themed “Nigerian Realtors and the Code of Professional Ethics,” the event attracted over 365 participants across Facebook and other social media platforms. Featuring distinguished speakers like Rejoice Alabi, Esq., Director of Admin/Operations at PWAN PLUS LTD, Victory Oaikena, Esq, Property Consultant/Legal Adviser at Casa Victoria, and Rev. Fr. Dr. Godswill Agbagwa, Executive Director of CSAAE, the webinar addressed pressing ethical challenges facing the country’s real estate sector. These experts shared deep insights into the importance of upholding professional standards and integrity in real estate transactions. Realtors were guided through critical discussions on ethical codes that govern their profession, emphasizing the role of transparency, fairness, and accountability in building client trust. CSAAE Hosts Groundbreaking Media Ethics Workshop for Mass Communications Students of Federal Polytechnic Nekede

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Centre for Social Awareness, Advocacy, and Ethics (CSAAE) recently held a two-day *Media Ethics Workshop* at Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, themed *”Media Ethics: Key to Effective Media Practice in Nigeria.”* The workshop made a lasting impression on participants, particularly mass communication students, who delved deep into essential topics shaping the future of journalism and media practice. The event covered a wide range of subjects, including media ethical principles, professional etiquette, copyright laws, plagiarism, the role of AI in journalism, and social media ethics. These sessions were designed to promote critical thinking and a deep understanding of ethical media practices in an ever-evolving digital landscape. Interactive Q&A sessions provided students with a platform to ask challenging questions, fostering engaging discussions that pushed the boundaries of conventional thinking. The exchange of ideas was vibrant, further underscoring the importance of maintaining ethical standards in media. Elevating Healthcare Standards: CSAAE Champions Healthcare Ethics Worshop at Federal Teachng Hospital Abakaliki

In a significant move to bolster ethical standards within Nigeria’s healthcare sector, CSAAE recently conducted a comprehensive workshop on healthcare ethics at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakiliki, Ebonyi State. The event, which drew a diverse audience of nurses, medical students, physicians, and medical college professors, was a fantastic opportunity to shed light on troubling ethical issues in the Nigerian healthcare industry. Attendees were enlightened by CSAAE’s esteemed team of medical ethicists, hailing from across the globe. These experts covered a range of crucial topics, including the principles of healthcare ethics, privacy and confidentiality challenges in Nigeria, and ethical guidelines for healthcare professionals in the realms of research, social media, and AI. The workshop saw the active participation of the Chief Medical Director (CMD), college principals, and staff of FETHA 1, underscoring the importance and relevance of the event. The engaging sessions sparked thoughtful discussions and provided actionable insights, reinforcing the necessity of adhering to ethical standards in healthcare practice. On May 27, 2024, we hosted an enlightening webinar on “Nigerian Bankers and the Code of Professional Ethics for Bankers,” aimed at discussing the ethical principles guiding the banking profession in Nigeria. The session featured Chris Nnakwe, an experienced banker, who shared valuable insights into the responsibilities, challenges, and expectations for banking professionals. The event attracted 138 participants, reflecting the importance of ethical standards in maintaining trust and accountability within the banking sector.  Key Highlights from the Webinar  1.
