Youth Ethics Debate 2021

2021 Nation Ethics Contest: Sparking Critical Thought Through Debate  Following the success of its inaugural essay competition in 2020, CSAAE returned in 2021 with the second edition of the Nation Ethics Contest—this time in the form of a high-stakes debate competition. Staying true to its mission of nurturing ethical and critical leadership among young Nigerians, CSAAE once again put the spotlight on Nigerian undergraduates, challenging them to engage with one of the most pressing global issues of our time.  The theme of the 2021 contest was both timely and thought-provoking: Should face masks and the Covid-19 vaccine be made mandatory? Participants were tasked with arguing either for or against the motion, presenting well-researched and compelling arguments before a panel of judges.  It was more than just a competition—it was a platform for young minds to explore the balance between public health, personal freedom, and ethical governance. The students who rose to the occasion demonstrated not just oratory skills, but also the ability to think critically, speak persuasively, and engage respectfully with opposing views.  The top three winners received cash prizes of ₦300,000 for first place, ₦200,000 for second place, and ₦100,000 for third place. In addition, all other participants received ₦20,000 as a consolation prize—an acknowledgment of the effort, courage, and intellect each student brought to the table.  The 2021 edition of the Nation Ethics Contest proved that Nigerian youths are not only capable of identifying ethical challenges but are also prepared to tackle them head-on with intelligence and integrity. Through initiatives like this, CSAAE continues to build a future generation of ethical leaders, one contest at a time.

Youth Ethics and Anti-corruption Summit 2020

CSAAE’s 2020 Youth Ethics and Anti-Corruption Summit: Empowering Young Nigerians to Lead Ethical Change  In July 2020, CSAAE took another bold step in its mission to promote ethical leadership and fight corruption in Nigeria by hosting the Youth Ethics and Anti-Corruption Summit. The summit brought together passionate Nigerian youths from across the country for a powerful and transformative engagement centered on real-life interventions in their communities.  Participants were invited to identify and share personal encounters with abuses of human rights or the rule of law, corrupt practices, or unethical behaviors prevalent in their immediate environments—be it in their communities, schools, churches, or workplaces. But this summit was not just about raising awareness. It was about action.  Each participant had to explain not just what was going wrong, but how they were actively working to address it. These stories of courage, creativity, and resilience became the heart of the summit.  Out of all the submissions, 15 outstanding interventions were selected for a pitching session. During this session, participants presented their initiatives to a panel of judges, showcasing the tangible impact of youth-led ethics projects across Nigeria.  To further support these changemakers, CSAAE funded the top three pitches—an act that demonstrated not only belief in the power of youth but also a commitment to turning ideas into action.  The 2020 Youth Ethics and Anti-Corruption Summit was more than an event—it was a call to action, a platform for impact, and a celebration of the ethical revolution being led by young Nigerians. Through opportunities like this, CSAAE continues to ignite a movement of youth-driven change, grounded in integrity and fueled by purpose.

Ethics Essay Competition 2020

The Birth of a Vision: The 2020 Inaugural Nation Ethics Contest by CSAAE  In 2020, the Centre for Social Awareness, Advocacy and Ethics (CSAAE) took a bold step towards nurturing ethical leadership among Nigerian youths by launching the Nation Ethics Contest. This initiative was born out of a deep concern for the growing ethical deficit in our society and the desire to engage young minds—particularly undergraduates—in the fight against corruption.  The maiden edition of the contest came in the form of an essay competition. Nigerian undergraduates across the country were invited to participate by selecting any form of corruption they observed in their environment. Participants were tasked with writing thoughtful and practical essays, identifying not only the nature of the corruption but also offering innovative solutions on how it could be eliminated.  The response was inspiring. Brilliant minds from universities nationwide shared stories rooted in personal experience and national realities, crafting essays that reflected both deep insight and a passion for positive change.  From the numerous submissions, ten of the best essays were selected for recognition. These winning entries were not only rewarded with prizes but also published in the C-Ethics Journal, giving these young writers a platform to be heard and a motivation to continue championing integrity.  The success of the 2020 edition set the tone for what has now become an annual event—a movement to promote ethical consciousness and leadership among Nigeria’s future leaders. Through initiatives like this, CSAAE continues to inspire and empower a generation that can lead with character, courage, and a strong sense of responsibility.
