Objective:
- To address the need for ethical conduct among teachers
- To educate the public about the code of ethics guiding teaching professionals
- To provide the public with practical solutions on how to address issues of misconduct by erring teachers
Activities:
- Interactive session with panelist
- Questions and answer session involving the audience
Key findings and results:
- The teachers are aware that there are some of their colleagues who violates the code of ethics guiding the teaching profession.
- There is a task force constituted by Formidable Education Development to monitor and discipline defaulting teachers.
- While corporal punishment is not allowed, some teachers still use it to enforce rules.
- There is the need to further train teachers on ethically approved discipline for disobedient students.
Lesson learned:
Parents have a role to play in finding out from their children the conduct and attitude of their teachers and report complaints to the school authority. Ethics organizations have a responsibility of educating teachers on the code of Ethics guiding the teaching profession.
