Nigerian Bankers and the Code of Professional Ethics for Bankers

  1. To address the need for ethical conduct within the banking industry 
  1. To educate the public about the code of ethics guiding banking operations and the conducts of bankers  
  1. To provide the public with practical solutions on how to address issues of misconduct by erring bankers   

Activities: 

  1. Interactive session with panelist 
  1. Questions and answer session involving the audience  

Key findings and results: 

  1. Bankers are regularly trained on the ethical code of conduct applicable to their profession 
  1. Some bankers still do not follow the ethics of their profession.  

Lesson learned: 

The public have a role to play in ensuring that bankers discharge their duties adhering to established ethical code of conducts. While training goes a long way in helping bankers adhere to ethical codes, it would be ideal to discipline erring bankers.
