Key findings and results:
- ‘House agents’ and realtors are not the same although the former often claim to be realtor but their conduct and their activities don’t portray them as such.
- The real estate sector in Nigeria is rapidly evolving, hence there is the need to emphasize ethics among realtors in order to save the sector from impending ruins
- Realtors may operate independently, but they have certifying criteria and under go regular training to remain abreast with trends in the sector
- Unlike untrained ‘house agents’, realtors go beyond connecting clients with property owners, they offer consultancy and advisory services to their clients and looks out for the client’s best interest
Lesson learned:
While realtors are not the same with house agents, its common assumption among uninformed people that they are the same. Hence, There is the urgent need to initiate mandatory ethics training for ‘house agents’ to enable them fit into the system by providing responsible customer satisfactory service to those who seek their services.
